Daughter has the above scanner. She recently moved the entire computer desk to another room.
Now, she wants to scan something and noticed that the 'lights' weren't on for said scanner. She tried to use the HP PrecisionScanLTX software...and the popup states: "scanner not found".
Went into ControlPanel>Scanner/Cameras and the only icon showing was the "Add Device" icon.
Decided to do the Add/Remove for said HP PrecisionScanLTX to uninstall it. Shutdown the computer. Unplugged the 2 cables from back of scanner. Turned on computer, inserted the scanner cd, got the data as required, attached the 2 cables to rear of scanner as mentioned in instructions, rebooted (w/cd still in drive)...after rebooting, took out cd...tried to use the software...but got the same "scanner not found'...went to ControlPanel>Scanner&Cameras...sure enough, only the "Add Device" icon was showing.
What do we do now? Something else I should remove after uninstalling the software from Add/Remove?...perhaps some folders somewhere...maybe something in the Registry?

Have you also checked the obvious.
IS there power in the electrical outlet that the scanner power lead is now plugged into?
Is the outlet on a wall switch that may be turned off?

If the scanner worked OK before the move, then there shouldn't be a "settings" problem.

<img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>...we have unplugged the power source from the UPS...which has all the other 'goodies' plugged in also...which means they are functioning properly...plugged it back in again, etc.
Will have to go over to her house tomorrow and uninstall from Add/Remove the software, and any and all folders in Programs>HP, reboot, go into the Registry and manually seek out any and all Scanning Software lines listed...and try again from scratch! *sighs*

Scanners usually have a slide switch on the back that "locks down" the movable parts inside, to prevent damage while moving the scanner. See if she put the lock ON and then forgot to take it OFF. When you say the "lights" aren't coming on, are you talking about the power indicator on the scanner, or the icon on the PC's Taskbar?

Lock isn't on...'lights' refer to the buttons one can push for print or email...in otherwords, the power indicator on the scanner.

Well, I completely uninstalled any and everything pertaining to this scanner.
I then did the 'out-of-box' install as if this were a brand new scanner...followed all the directions on the software cd, after being notified that the software was correctly installed, about attaching each cable and then all the other stuff etc.,..still no good.
I guess after almost 5 years and many, many, many pictures being scanned and other items being scanned...it is now time to give this scanner a trip to the scanner heaven.

Then it sounds like the power supply for the scanner has died.
