    720 KB Floppy Disk

An elderly friend has been using a Smith Corona Word Processor to create and save documents, files, etc on a 720 KB floppy disk. Is there any way to "read" this disk with a standard 1.44 MB floppy disk drive? I know that the format of the files will need to be converted (if possible), but I am not sure that the 1.44 drive will "see" the 720 KB disk.

I don't think you'll have a problem reading it -- what you certainly cannot do is to format a 3
    <font face="Script MT Bold"><font color=blue><big><big>John</big></big></font color=blue></font face=script>

    Ita, esto, quidcumque...

A DD floppy should be readable in principle, but I fear that it will not be written to in a DOS-compatible format. A relative had a similar problem with a Brother WP - the output format simply couldn't be seen by DOS. Later models did write to DOS-formatted floppies, and saved files as .RTF. You might get lucky if this is the case with the Smith Corona.

This is what MS has to say on the subject.

In addition to the above, the file format will NOT be able to read.

What I have done is print out a copy from the Smith Corona and then run the copy through a OCR program and saved the file in Word. This has worked for me many times.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
