Need Help Writing Formula (Excel 2000)

I need help writing an Excel formula.
(1) Cells D11146 list numbers that are in ascending order.
(2) Cells G11:G145 also list numbers, but not sorted in any particular order.
(3) I need a formula that for MAX(D11146), with D146 = MAX, will give me the number in cell G145 (NOT in cell G146, which is blank). Thanks. Robert

Sorry, I don't understand. What exactly do you want to accomplish? Your description leads to the formula =G145, but I'm sure that's not what you meant.

If you want in cell G146 the value that is in Col G in the same row as the max value from D11145, you could use this formula in G146:
<pre>=INDEX(G11:G145,MATCH(MAX(D11146),D11145,0))</pre>


If that is not what you are after, could you elaborate?

Thanks for the replies. Steve's formula is exactly what I needed! I suspected that it would have something to do with the INDEX function, but I have never been able to figure out how to use that function (even using the wizard). Now that I have an example to follow, I can now correct some other formulas that weren't working as well.
