Keep users out of data db (2002)

I have 2 data bases set up in a multi-user environment. The code/forms are in one which is secured through login logic. The data is in the second. I want to keep users out of the data db while not interfering with the links to the data from the first db. I'm not using Access Workgroup security. I developed my own logic which requires users to enter a user name and password. How do I keep users from opening the data db?
    Thanks,
    Lance

I think you should use Access User Security.
Have a look at <!profile=WendellB>WendellB<!/profile>'s web site. There is a tutorial about security.

The problem is that when you use your own security, there is no way to keep someone from creating a new database then linking to any/all of the tables in your data db! If you want to secure the database, you need to use Access security.

Re: Keep users out of data db (2002)

Thanks to all of you. I realize the benefits of Access Security and have used it in other applications. For a variety of reasons, I choose not to use it this time. I just really need to know how to stop users from entering the data db while not interfeering with the front-end db. Can anybody help with this?
    Thanks

There really isn't any absolute secure way, most methods assume minimal user knowledge (anyone with alot of knowledge can get by most techniques). Under what circumstances are they opening the backend anyway? You could try changing its file attribute to Hidden; that might help some. Do users know how to use shift key to bypass startup? If not, then you could use a macro or a startup form that just gives a message and then closes the database.

I doubt that any of my users know about the Shift key startup bypass and I could disable that and use a command line parameter to get around it when I had to get in. Would creating a startup form and closing the db have any effect on the connection from the front end db?

It would have no affect at all on the frontend.
