    Migration

I am hopefully receiving a new laptop in the next few days. I have 2 options to migrate:
    1) I have a network at home I can hook both up to at the same time; or
    2) I have an 80 gig Maxtor drive.
Any good resources or articles to read about doing this in the least painful way?
I tried a google, but got too much irrelevant stuff.

    Thanks

I hope this is the correct forum for this.

    Re: Migration

I'm not sure I understand the question. When you receive this new laptop, do you want it to be a replacement for some other computer? Will it be used primarily at home, networked or not, or will the laptop be a work-environment computer, possibly used on a domain? If the new laptop comes with Windows already installed, there should be nothing to "migrate" save for data and other user created stuff you may want to put on it.

    Re: Migration

IT is part of a home network. The old computer is being given to someone else outside. Beforehand, I want to migrate my settings and data to the new computer. I am familiar with the MS tool to do this, I was wondering if there were any specific ideas to use.
    Thanks

Aha, OK I understand. I'll get out of the way now since I've not had any experience with the MS migration tools. Hopefully, a road warrior will jump in here if there are any suggestions or pitfalls to watch out for. AND, good luck with the new "baby."
