    Printer dialog bubble (XP SP2)

When I send a document to the printer the printer icon pops up next to the clock, but then I also get a dialog bubble with it telling me that the document has been sent to the printer along with a bunch of details about the document, stuff I don't need. It's bugging me and I want to get rid of it but can't figure out how. I like the printer icon, but not the bubble. Anyone have any idea how to get rid of the bubble?

Activate the Printers and Faxes control panel.
    Select File | Server Properties.
    Activate the Advanced tab.
Clear the check boxes for 'Show informational notifications for local printers' and 'Show informational notifications for network printers'.
    Click OK.

Thanks Hans, but that seems to have got rid of the printer icon in the sys tray as well as the dialog bubble. Any way to keep the printer icon while disposing of the bubble? I ask only because I have another PC where I get the icon in the sys tray but no bubble, that's the way I like it. I'm trying to tweak this new PC to behave like my old one.

Hmmm, on my system (XP SP-2 too), the check boxes are cleared, but I do get the icon in the notification area (systray). Does someone else know what's up?

I have three PCs in this room, all XP SP2 and all behave like yours.

Check to see if your printer is listed here. It may or may not be so.

    To customize notifications
Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties.
On the Taskbar tab, under Notification area, select the Hide inactive icons check box.
    Click Customize.
In the Name column, click the notification you want to change, in the Behavior column, click the behavior you want in the list, and then click OK.
On the Taskbar tab, click Apply.

Not sure if this will work or not, but it's worth a try. Recheck the check boxes that you cleared using Hans' suggestion, and then using TweakUI , clear the "enable balloon tips" check box in the "Taskbar and Start menu" section. I'm not sure though why you want to retain the printer icon in the tray if you don't want any information displayed?
