    Adding separators to favorites (ie6)

    <post#=33388>post 33388</post#> asked this question, but I couldn't see a reply.
    Is there a way to add separator bars, of the type seen on dropdown menus, to the IE favorites list (and the subfolders therein)?

    thanks

    As far as I know, this isn't possible. You can send an e-mail to mswish@microsoft.com ...

    In IE, that's not possible. Firefox does have that option (as does Mozilla).

    Hmmm <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>... looks like you have to do everything yourself nowadays.
    This is a bit of a hack, but it does a reasonable job.

    1. Add a new favorite, set the URL to:
    java script: void();

    Press "Yes" enough times for it to be accepted.

    Set the name to

    Presumably, "...as many Alt+0175 characters as you want..." means that it changes according to your screen resolution - which is why putting it into a (downloadable) attachment wouldn't really make much practical sense???

    OK, Now that you have done this, if you do a "Sort" what happens to the separator(s)?

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    No idea. And I don't want to find out either <img src=/S/yikes.gif border=0 alt=yikes width=15 height=15>. I've just manually dragged everything into the order I want it. I wonder what the effect is in Mozilla, where such separators are apparebtly a "feature", rather than a hack. ???

    Re: Adding separators to favorites (ie6)

    I hadn't really thought in terms of screen resoulution. I just noticed (attachment) that it displays with the trailing ... string if there are too many characters and it needs to be truncated to the display pane width. This looked a bit untidy to me, so I limited mine to a length that fits within the width. It will depend on how you show favorites - as a popup display (large width) or in a pane (smaller width). This is why I'd leave it to the individual to decide.

    Do you really think it warrants a "downloadable attachment"? I can do one if you think it's appropriate.

    Edited - Of course, each favorite needs a different name within one folder, so you do need a different number of overscore characters in each such separator... getting messy I'm afraid.
