    Downloading msgs (2000)

    All of a sudden Outlook sometimes hangs up and won't download my messages. I discovered that if I close the pgm and reopen it it will then get my msgs fine. i.e. I don't need to reboot the whole computer.

    I switched to comcast cable access & to Firefox as a browser - could that have affected anything? Thx.

    By 'hangs up' do you mean
    * 'locks up' as in will not do anything and has to be killed
    * Disconnects a phone line from a dial-up modem (although I'm assuming not if you have a cable modem)
    * Just doesn't download

    If the later, what happens if you click send/receive?

    As a general rule of computing, any recent change is normally the cause, or has triggered a 'feature' that was already lurking. However, I'm hard pressed to see how this is the cause unless you're dealing with an ISP network time-out that is being lost due to a firewall activity or some other 'deep' issue.

    Re: Downloading msgs (2000)

    Outlook will not download msgs from the server and gives an error stating that the server won't connect. It works fine after closing and reopning Outlook, suggesting to me that Outlook has some sort of buffers or something that are being flushed by closing/opening the program.

    I have had SP2 for some time and did not have this problem when I used dial up access - only when I switched to cable.

    Do you have a "PDA" or a fax program running? These will keep Outlook running and a second copy will fail.

    No.

    I did have Symantec's Winfax running for a long time (2-3 years) but just found where it loaded itself into the machine at startup and removed it.

    Post a screen shot of the error message so we can see what error NUMBER is being posted.
