Define field as a formula (2003)

    Hi

In Outlook, is there any way of defining a custom field as a formula?

For example, I use a view where one of the columns is Categories. Sometimes I want to sort the view on Category, but Outlook doesn't allow this (I don't undersand why; presumably something to do with Categories potentially having multiple values). So, I thought I could achieve what I want by creating a new TEXT field with a value equal to the text you see when you display Categories (eg, "Personal, School friends"). This would look identical to Categories, but would be sortable.

Is there some way of doing this?

PS: I realise I could define a view grouped by Category, but that's not what I want to do.

    Thanks
    Dale

This is what I do: Clikc 'Cutomize current view', click 'Fields', Click 'New Field', select Type 'Formula', etc ...
BUT: it seems that Outlook does not allow to sort on a formula field...
