Receiving Multiple Copies of Emails (Outlook 97 SR2/XP Pro)

After recently setting up a new email account on a workstation, the user began receiving multiple copies of each email message along with the Windows error message: "MS Windows Messaging Subsystem Spooler has encountered a problem and needs to close." I removed and reinstalled Outlook 97 (and reloaded SR-1 & SR-2.) Now when we try to send an email message, the computer receives the message that "The following recipient(s) could not be reached...No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient," and Outlook locks up. We also continue to receive the error message about the spooler. Any ideas on how I can repair this problem?

A search on "No transport ....etc." turns up a number of possible causes. Similarly, this search reveals a number of causes for the Spooler problem.
