    Access Linking .xls (2000)

I cannot Link an Excel file that I save in its native form (.xls) but, if I resave that exact same file as .txt (tab) it will allow me to link it in Access. I need to be able to Link to the native Excel file in Access, any suggestions?

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Do you get an error message when you try to link an Excel spreadsheet in your database? If so, what is the exact message?

    (appendage)

    Steps I am trying...

Get External Data -> Link Tables -> "Files of Format" Microsoft Excel *.xls

Message I get... "The wizard is unable to access information in the file [file name] Please check to make sure file exists and is in the correct format."

Whats even stranger is that if I take a file saved as an FILE.XLS and right click on the file name and "rename" it to FILE.TXT it will Link okay

Thank you, that is useful information. See if MSKB article You receive a "Could not find installable ISAM" error message or some file types are missing when you import files, export files, or link files in Access 2000 helps (it is rather technical, but that is unavoidable)

    Thanks Hans

I stumbled onto this earlier but was hopeing it didn't refer to my problem. DARN! I guess if I would have read the whole things I would have known.
