    Auto-number in format [0001] to [9999] (97 & XP)

    I need to auto-number paragraphs starting at [0001] and ending at [9999] (if I get that far). I can get [0001] at the start of a paragraph by adding padding zeroes, but then when I get to paragraph 10 I get [00010], and then at 100 I get [000100]. If I change the paragraphs after [00010] to have only 2 padding zeroes then it also changes the first 9 paragraphs, so I see [001]. Can I have a conditional paragraph numbering format? Any ideas?

    I don't think so. You would have to create the numbering manually, using the SEQ field, e.g.

    { SEQ mynum # "0000" }

    where mynum is an arbitrary identifier for the sequence. The field brackets { } must not be typed in, you must use Ctrl+F9 to create them.
