    Word Mailmerge Calculations (word 2000+)

    Hi All,

    I've problems with calculations with mailmerge fields. All goes well if the value (currency fields) is positive, but not negative.
    Is this a limitation? I'm using a text word merge file.

    Thanks !

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    It's probably best to use plain numbers (not formatted as currency) in the data source file, and to format the result of the calculation by adding a number format switch in the field code, e.g.

    { = { MERGEFIELD Field1 } + { MERGEFIELD Field2 } # "-$0.00" }

    Note: the field brackets { } must not be typed in, but inserted using Insert | Field or Ctrl+F9.

    Alas, i've no control over the datasource file. It's made with the MS Access export to MS Word merge file.
    Hmm, maybe I can put a query in front of it.....

    Why don't you use the Access table or query directly as data source for the mail merge, instead of exporting it to Word? You shouldn't have problems with currency fields then.

    You are right, but the data in the tables get changed. I need a copy of the data for archieving so I can reproduce the same letters later on.
    The users who make the letters don't always have access to the data.

    In that case, you might use a query that uses CDbl to cast currency fields as double precision numbers, and export the query instead of the table.
