    Do I have IE6 SP1? (WinXP/IE 6.0)

I suppose this sounds like a silly question, but I need to know whether I have Internet Explorer, SP1. Please look at the attached screen shot. You can see a reference to SP2, but I'm not sure whether that's a reference to Windows XP SP2. I'm asking because the Microsoft Download Center lists IE SP1, but doesn't even mention SP2. Some weeks ago, I performed a nondestructive reinstallation of WinXP, and I suspect that event may have dumped IE SP1, if I ever had that to begin with.

If you did not re-install SP-2 or the CD you used did not have SP-2 already, you probably have a mixed up system with different versions of Windows components. I'd recommend installing SP-2 immediately.

Thank you for the quick response. I did install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP after I reinstalled the OS. My concern here is with Internet Explorer 6.0. In the Microsoft Download Center, it appears there's a Service Pack 1 for IE. It's unclear to me whether my version of IE is up to date.

Internet Explorer 6.0 is part of Windows XP, so if you installed Windows XP SP2, you also have Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2.

That makes sense. So why does the Microsoft Download Site (under "Popular downloads") list "Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1"?

Because it's a popular download! The Download Center is different from the Windows Update site. Windows Update will analyze your system and only display updates that are appropriate for your setup. The Download Center offers all kinds of items for download, not customized for your system.

And, in general, if you have "SP2" then that USUALLY includes SP1...

Lucas, you dont say if it is on a new machine but if it is then you probably do have SP2 for this application but not others. I would suggest you get the CD from Microsoft for SP2 and install it. At least then you will know that you have a full SP2 installation.

If IE has been updated to SP2, then the rest of XP has also been updated. When SP2 is applied, it is applied to the COMPLETE operating system. An easy check is Start>Control Panel>System .
