Restart Paragraph numbering after section break (Word 2000 / HotDocs)

Hi Gurus,

I am programming a document through HotDocs and Word 2000.

This document has a few numbered lists. When assembled, more often than not the document is repeated. When this happens the first numbered list does not restart the numbering. All other numbered lists do.

Can anyone help me with a way to easily restart the numbering on the first numbered list in a document.

EG:
The coded document (simplified) is as follows:-
Repeat
Letter to whoever
(a) blah blah
( blah blah
text
(a) blah blah blah
( blah blah blah
blah blah blah
text
end repeat

When assembled:-
Letter to named person
(a) blah blah
( blah blah
text
(a) blah blah blah
( blah blah blah
blah blah blah
text
SECTION BREAK
Letter to named person 2
blah blah
(d) blah blah
text
(a) blah blah blah
( blah blah blah
blah blah blah
text

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Restart Paragraph numbering after section brea

Trish,

Here's one way to do it:

Create an outline numbering scheme, and link it to styles. Based on your sample, you would only need two styles, let's call them ListLev1 and ListLev2.

ListLev1 could be based on, and identical to, the style you are currently using for the text paragraphs that come before the each "(a)" paragraph. This style would occupy the first level in the outline numbering scheme, but would have no numbering associated with it.

ListLev2 would be the style that produces your (a), ( etc. paragraphs. This style would occupy the second level in the outline numbering scheme. You would set this one to restart automatically after ListLev1 paragraphs.

Then apply the ListLev1 style to the paragraphs such as "Letter to whoever" and "text", and ListLev2 style to the paragraphs that need the (a), (, etc.

Hope that helps,
Gary
