Report based on sum of fields in subform (Access 2000)

I have a subform that contains a footer with a total of one of the fields. This works nicely as a subform within a main form.
Next I need to generate a report that includes the total from that subform without listing all the detail. However, when I run the report the subform is not active so the total doesn't exist. How do I get the total into the report?

    There are different possibilities.
You can use the DSum function.
You can use a Total Query and link it to the recordsource of the report.
You can insert a subreport (like the subform) and make it invisible.

Thanks Francois, I'll look into it. I tried to embed the subform into the report, but nowhere could I find a way to make it invisible. Perhaps a subreport would work differently.
Actually, the totals query works quite nicely.
