    Directory Table (2003/SP1)

Is anyone aware of any software utility that can be "linked" to Access that scans the files in a specified folder?

For example, when you make a change to an Excel spreadsheet that is linked to an Access database, the change is also reflected in the linked table. I would want to set up a link that scans files in a folder and updates a table that lists the file names.

    I don't understand your problem.
If you link a spreadsheet to Access, all changes in the spreadsheet will be "reflected" in Access as Access don't store anything, it just read the Excel file.

I do not want another Excel file. I want a table in Access that keeps a list of files in a particular directory.

Have a look at List files in a folder with Microsoft Scripting Runtime using VBA in Microsoft Excel.
This is code to get info from files into an Excel sheet.
It could easily been modified to get the info in a table in an Access database.
