Saving a Linked Excel Spreadsheet on an Intranet (2000)

I have created several spreadsheets that require passwords for opening and modifying. I have made links to these spreadsheets on our company Intranet. The spreadsheets themselves reside on our network in a shared directory. I want users to be able to open, modify, and save changes to these spreadsheets. Here is my problem: In accessing the spreadsheets through the Intranet the Save As option is the only one given.
Is is possible to Save these changes to the original spreadsheet? Thanks for any help!

You might try removing the "Password" protection. With that turned on, the ONLY option is to "Save AS".

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Dave, I wasn't clear. These spreadsheets need to be password protected because of sensitive information and only certainly people should have access to.

Then perhaps you should put them in an access protected directory on the server.

Re: Saving a Linked Excel Spreadsheet on an Intranet (2000)

So I take it that what I want to do is not possible? I don't want to put them in a protected directory (maybe I'll have to?). I want to put them on the Intranet. It has taken a while to "train" our employees to use the Intranet. I don't want to regress. These are simple spreadsheets that calculate each persons paid leave time. They need to be password protected so that only the employee and bookkeeper have access to the employee's spreadsheet. Is there another way to do this and have them available on the Intranet? Thanks for your help. I thought this would be so simple since the spreadsheets and the Intranet reside on the same server.

You need to talk to the person managing the Intranet server.
