    Dialog Box Message (Word 2003)

I received my new Dell PC with Office 2003 SP1 over the holidays. When I open Word normally, i.e. click on the Word icon, the program starts up fine. If I click on an existing Word document, a dialog box appears with the message "This command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close the open dialog boxes to continue." After closing the dialog box, the document opens. I have not added any macros or made any modifications to Word. Other than this, Word operates perfectly. As a test, I tried this on an Excel document and it opens normally. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Do you have Norton Anti Virus? If so, see if the Office Plugin is enabled. This is known to cause all kinds of problems. You can turn it off safely as long as AutoProtect is on.
    - Start the Norton Anti Virus console.
    - Click Options.
    - Click Miscellaneous on the Other section
    - Clear the check box 'Enable Office Plugin'.

    Hans,

That did the trick. I know the Office Plugin causes problems and I was sure it was unchecked. I was wrong. Must be the bifocals. Thanks for the quick response.
