Unknown filename

The last few times I have booted up the system ( or rebooted ) I have received an error message 126, referring to a missing rtl70.bpl file?
I close out the error message and all seems to be fine. I have searched the system for that filename and couldn't find it either. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS !
SInce it occurs on startup, I looked in the startup msconfig and run once locations without results.

Did a google on the filename and came up with a lot of references to a "Grendel Project" for advanced computer users and also naming MUD codebase & Delphi programs.

Did all of the Ad & Spyware checks and a full AV check, Nothing.

Does anyone know what this is or what program might be calling for this file?

It seems to be a run time library for Delphi 7. Have you installed an application recently that could have been written in Delphi, in particular an application that is loaded on startup?

Hans,
None that I know of that used Delphi.
In fact the only NEW thing that I have installed is the MS anti spyware beta. Don't know if that used Delphi or not.
I did uninstall it but don't see any remnants of it, particularly in the the startup groups.

Re: Unknown filename

Hmmm. Can you find any mention of rtl70.bpl in the Windows registry at all (not just in the Run etc. keys)?
Have you tried AutoRuns? Since the error message appears at startup, the file MUST be associated with a startup process or application...

Re: Unknown filename

Hans,
I did search the entire reg just now and the only instance it found was in the MS search assistant, I assume that was from when I searched for the file on my HDs.
I did delete that one though.
I will DL the "Autoruns" and try that also.

I suspect the MS anti spyware beta wasis the cause but can't verify that.

Bob

There's no RPL70.BPL on my PC, and there's nothing starting RPL or with an extension of BPL anywhere in Program FilesMicrosoft AntiSpyware directory.

I think your problem lies elsewhere...

You may be right on that, John. The reason I suspected it was because it was the only new addition. I have since uninstalled it and for the last few boots I haven't seen it rear it's head.

That mysterious Grendel Project has my curiosity piqued?

Re: Unknown filename

Bob,

I disected the file name and ran it through Google. Given your geography I thought a BPL hit might pertain to you.

Or it could have something to do with this new technology, "Broadband Over Power Line".

Re: Unknown filename

Jezza,
Winamp MAY be a possibility.
I do have it installed in the dark, dusty archives of one of my HDs, but haven't used it in some time. Maybe one of it's files went South. Think I'll just dump it since I don't use that much and see what happens. Thanks,

Re: Unknown filename

Doc,
Those are interesting possibilities, of course, but I don't see the connection to my mystery.
I do my research in the National Archives and havn't visited the Boston Library at all.

( note to all: I haven't seen this error for a few days now. The thought remains, where did it come from? )
