    Wireless Router or Access Point?

Howdy all. Being a total newbie to wireless networking, I'm not sure what I need here. Here's the background. I'm staying at a KOA campground in a travel trailer, and have my laptop. I've signed up for their wireless service which uses E Hook-Up.com. So far, so good. No problems at all. Being somewhat(!) paranoid, I'm worried about security. Since all I need to get connected is the PCMCIA card for my laptop, I'm not sure what I need in the way of a router, or an access point. BTW, the laptop card is an Orinoco (Lucent) Gold model (11b) @ 11Mbps, and it belongs to them, not me. Can I also use another card? What are your suggestions for a router or an access point?? Thanks in advance.

    Take care,
    Mike.

"router or an access point" not needed and my not work as KOA is providing them.

The card KOA card my be required. All you need to do is get another, and try it.

Most Public access points are secure and one can not see the other computers. I have used them at the malls, libraries airports, hotels and etc.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

The most important thing you need is a decent software firewall, see <post#=407306>post 407306</post#>

Re: Wireless Router or Access Point?

Thanks for the info guys. I'm already running the latest versions of Sygate SPF,NAV, Ad Aware, & Spybot. I can see that there's a lot that I need to catch up on, in regard to this wireless setup.

    Take care,
    Mike.
