    Macros aren't available (Word 2002)

This may have been asked before, but not for Word 2002.

We have some users where the macros seem to be not available. We have created some macros which have been made available through a macro toolbar. For some users the toolbar doesn't work and even if you go to the Tools menu, Macros, Macros, and even if you can click on the macro name, the macro doesn't run. The macro on the toolbar is one to run spell checking in a protected document created from a template. We're probably running into two issues: protected template and spell checking, and macros not available.

The issues with the spell check macro only occur for certain people. Other people have no problem running the macro within a protected document to spell check unprotected areas.

Let the users who have problems check the macro security level:
    - Select Tools | Macro | Security...
    - If the setting int the Security Level tab is High, macros cannot be run at all. Medium is the recommended setting.
    - It is also a good idea to tick "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" in the Trusted Sources tab.
    - Click OK to close the security dialog.

Re: Macros aren't available (Word 2002)

We checked the security on a test laptop and it was set to Low, Trusted Sources were set.

I mis-quoted the issue. Actually the option for Tools menu, Macro, Macros does not show on the menu. The first item is Record a New Macro. In fact if we record a macro, we cannot run it because we do not see the option for Macros on the menu.

Any other thoughts on the issue.

Can you put the Macros item back on theTools | Macro menu from the Customize dialog?

I am not sure how I can add the Macros option back to the menu. I guess that I have never changed menu options.

    Select Tools | Customize...
First make sure that "Always show full menus" is ticked in the Options tab. Otherwise, items might be hidden.
If that doesn't help, select Tools | Customize... again.
    Activate the Commands tab.
Select Tools in the Categories list, and Macros... in the Commands list.
Drag to the Tools | Macro submenu.

    Thanks, Hans.

Adding the menu item back for one of my fellow employees seems to have worked. I still have at least one other user of Word with the issue, but I believe this will solve his issue also.
