Deleted Folder reappears . . .

We are running Windows 2003, and we've just had a weird occurance. We're reorganizing our Folder Structure, and today one of our staff decided to delete a now-empty Folder as the contents had been moved to a new location. However, whenever she delete the Folder, 60 seconds later, it reappeared! This happened again and again, and in the end, I had to delete it for it to stay deleted!

Anyone have any clues as to what's happening?

Is Network Synchronization enabled? (I'm not a systems person, so I don't remember if that's the exact name for it...)

In my last job we had synchronization enabled between our server and a network attached backup device. Anytime you made a change in one location, it was almost immediately duplicated on the other. If I remember correctly, right-click on the folder(s) in question and look for any out-of-the-ordinary tabs. That might be your answer.

Thanks for the reply.

We do use 'Offline Folders', so I unchecked 'Make Available Offline', yet the Folder is still coming back.

This is now happening for at least 3 Folders . . . so weird?!

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Thanks. I've looked through the article, and I can't say that these scenarios seem to apply to us. Certainly, as Administrator, I have Full Control, and I've even Taken Ownership of the Folders. They're all short names, like 'Bob', so I don't think it's an 8.3 issue, and they're not buried deep down. All of them are immediately below the Share Name. I'm very confused. I've logged a call with the company that provides our high-level support to see if they've come across this before.

I'll post back if I get a resolution, if you're interested.

Thanks again for the replies.

Just as a matter of interest, what happens if you move the folder without deleting it?

Please do post back with any solution you find!

I've renamed the Folder, about an hour ago, and it hasn't reappeared under its old name (?). Someone else tried to move it, and that DID cause it to reappear.

I shall certainly post back if I find a solution (I hope I do!!!!).

Thanks again.

I'm guessing that 'Bob' above is just an example. Are the folders associated with particular users? When they re-appear who owns them? Do you have any data protection scheme or software running on the server? Has the server and PCs been re-booted since you 'turned off' the synchronization (just to make sure nothing is cached anywhere)?

Re: Deleted Folder reappears . . .

Logging in from home, so I've got a different UserName . . .

Anyway, I figured out what was causing this. Believe it or not, it was our Photocopier/Scanner. Using same, we can scan a document, and a program installed on each user's PC checks every few minutes to see if any documents were scanned for that particular user. If 'yes', it transfers the file from the Photocopier/Scanner to the Folder specified in its settings. On each of these user's PCs, it was checking for documents and checking that the Folder still existed (unbeknown to us). Obviously, when it saw that the Folder wasn't there, it recreated it! Thus, I went to each User's PC and changed the Settings so that it no longer copied any scans to the Network; instead it copied/s it to the user's My Documents Folder. As soon as I changed this, the Folders no longer reappeared once deleted.
Mystery solved!

Thanks for all your replies. Hope this helps someone in future!
