That'll teach ya to mind your manners!

I just made a similar comment in another thread, Rudi, that The Lounge seemed to have a little "coughing spell" but came right back. It may be that the terrible weather up in our Northeast caused a momentary disruption in the signal to the Lounge server. Don't know, but since we're back, mebbe we should just keep our

Edited: Since I'll be leaving here in about an hour, I'm sure one of the other Mods in the USA (within easy mobile phone contact) will keep an eye open for a need to call our Root Guru...

OK...maybe we can give it some Vicks Medinite! It dries up any coughing spell quickly, and warms up the insides with its +/-40% alcohol content!

Re: The lounge is broken???

Rudi,
I've been having the same problem over the last few days. I thought it was a local thing but now I see others are having the same experience.
MOST times, it takes longer to come back on line than just a hiccup.
I've been blaming it on the New Jersey facilities, for lack of another scape goat.

Re: The lounge is broken???

Rudi,

These events appear to come in waves: Nothing for ages, then all of a sudden, two, three days in a row. Basically, when there's an overload or another problem, the lounge needs to "re-boot", so to speak.

During that time, you'll see that BSOD (Black Screen of Death). Normally, it only takes a few seconds to recover. Unfortunately, all you can do is wait a while and then try again.
Cheers, Claude.

Thx Claude....this is reassuring.
Personally I don't know what I'll do without the friendship, joys and humour of the lounge...now that I'm addicted to it!

Hmmmm. Let's see. Rudi: did these BSOD only become apparent after your return a week or so ago ? .... (huge grin!)

I don't think Rudi experienced any Lounge BSODs while he was on vacation...

Maybe you should ask Claude whether they started after Rudi's return

Re: The lounge is broken???

OK Rudi, it's time to come clean.

While you were away, Lounge Admin decided that the best way to deal with problems of server overload was to issue a BSOD at periodic intervals to scare people away. Stochastic reasoning showed that a single BSOD if displayed for five seconds would cause upwards of 2,000 users to grunt and walk away from the lounge, giving it "a few hours to settle down", as they thought, but in reality, it's just a cheap way of shaving the most frequent posters off the top of the queue.

I was going to tell you this yesterday, but I myself got a BSOD so I went to bed early instead ......

Chris,
NOT true, we would NOT want to scare anyone away, but then there is one I would like to.

I have seen this BSOD several times, this past weekend. But there were power outages in the NE of the States and could have been a factor.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I'll let u in on a secret....I DO have the knack of breaking things.
I tried to fix a semi-working toaster the other day! It hasn't worked since; not even the semi- part is working anymore...
