    Renaming Files (bulk)

I have 225 files in a single folder that have all been named consistently. (Name1 YY-MM-DD.doc, Name2 YY-MM-DD.doc, etc)

In order to have them filed in date order instead of name order, what I would like to do is to rename them so that the date and name are reversed. (YY-MM-DD Name1.doc, YY-MM-DD Name2.doc, etc).

I know how to rename a file but I would rather not do it 225 times!

Depending on your operating system, and how "consistent" the file naming has been, it might be possible to use a BATch file to do the work.

I presume that Name1 and Name2 are NOT always five characters long, and probably contain blanks. Could you give a few examples of real filenames? Let's hope they don't contain awkward characters like &, ', ", and so on...

    Hi Colin

You might find Oscar's File Renamer suits your purposes - very flexible/ versatile.

I used that for a while myself, but have gone back to Oscar, mainly because I consider it leaner coding. I had to abandon it at one stage though, when something broke and there was no way to reinstate it, even after an uninstall and a total registry scrubbing. Worked well after clean reinstalling Windows though. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Thanks Alan, Oscar worked just fine.

Thanks kaplinb, I've bookmarked THE Rename.

    Cheers!
