Federal Withholding Taxes for Payroll (97 or later)

(I could have sworn I posted this before I went to a meeting, but I came back and nothing is here....odd )

I have a friend who does payroll via excel spreadsheets. It calculates the necessary withholdings except for federal.

Does anyone know where I can find an Excel solution to calculating the federal withholding so I don't have to re-create the wheel? It looks like a beast.

A beast would be a very kind description to the monstrosity that congress has created. The calculations are very complicated, and the tax tables and rules are changing all the time. There may be Excel solutions out there, but I would never trust them to do it right and keep me out of jail or the poor house from paying IRS fines and interest. If your friend has to do payroll for more than one or two workers, I would strongly suggest spending a few hundred dollars to get Quicken Pro from Intuit and then sign up for one of their payroll subscription services. I use this for a payroll I have to do, and it is worth much more than it costs!

As Legare points out, the tables change whenever the US Federal Tax rates change. But did you review the thread beginning with <post#=209661>post 209661</post#>?
