    USB and synchronizing two computers

I have been told that one can transfer files from an old computer to a new computer using the USB ports on both machines.

How do I tell what version of the USB ports are on the old machine. I know the new one is USB 2.x.

What sort of software do I need to do this, or can I use the XP wizard, if so, how do I do this. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

Any help that anyone can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks. <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15>

Your owner's manual should identify your USB ports. As for USB file transfers, this Google search will give you some information. As well, you may wnat to look at Direct Cable Connection .

Look in Device Manager. USB 1.1 controllers are identified differently than USB 2.0 controllers. On my PC, USB 1.1 shows as Universal Host Controller, while my USB 2.0 card shows as Standard Enhanced Host Controller.

There are special "networking" cables available to connect 2 PC's through their USB ports.

Thanks John and John. It will take me a while to digest this info, but I really appreciate the input.
