AVI file in Powerpoint 2003 (2003)

I inserted an *.avi file in a presentation using Insert, Movies & Sounds, Movie from File. But when the presentation is run, the image disappears and in its place there's a black space. The file is large, 29800KB, but it works as expected in PowerpointXP. Any ideas what the problem may be? Thanks,

Do you have SP1 for Office 2003 installed? There may have been some fixes in it for this kind of thing.

    http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm I suspect it's a path-length issue.

Tested this by moving the file to the C:, but no joy.

    Tanya,

As well as moving the AVI to c:
Did you also *re-insert* the movie using
    Insert > movies > from file ?

Next question... where did the AVI file come from?

    Taj,

yeah, I actually started a brand new presentation and inserted the file again, with the same results. Originally, I don't know where this file came from, but I got it from a friend who was asking for some help putting together a presentation.

Since it's not a path-length issue, it may be a codec issue. The acid test is to try the file in the MCI Media Player. Go to Start/Run and type mplay32.exe If the file plays in that media player, it *should* play in PPT. If it doesn't, you may need to rerender with a more common codec. http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/Powe.../multimedia.htm has information on those.

The movie plays everywhere it's supposed to except in Powerpoint. It worked fine with mplay32.exe, but not in Powerpoint 2003. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but who've thunk it. I right clicked the movie and selected Edit Movie Object. From the dialog box I choose Zoom to full screen and now I can see the movie. Go figure.
Now I just one other question. When the movie is over, it doesn't show the still image again as it does when the slide first appears. When the movie is over the slide I just see the slide with the heading. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Bizarre. That's not a "fix" I've ever seen, but hey, if it worked, good on ya!

As for the still image when the movie is over, you'll have to do a screen cap of the last frame and animate that in on top of the movie after it stops playing. Or animate it in before the movie ends and use "hide while not playing" so the movie disappears.
