Image does not match thumbnail (XP Professional SP

After scanning 175 images which were named book1.jpg to book175.jpg I added a few images which I renamed book book50a.jpg and book70a.jpg. I renamed the images so I could sort them by name. Now I find that several of the thumbnail images do not match the actual image. In other words if I click on the thumbnail in My Pictures in Thumbnail View a different image from the one in the thumbnail appears in the Windows and Fax Viewer window. The same thing happens when I use the Film Strip View. When I highlight the image in the film strip, a different image appears above the film strip image. My guess is that the index to the actual image has been corrupted. Can this be corrected? Or is there some other problem?

Do a refresh on the folder or rem the hidden "Thumbs.db" file in that folder. It will require you to go in to the "Details" mode to delect this file, as it will be in use in the "Thumbnail or Filmstrip" mode.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I have refreshed several times but that did not fix the problem. I do not see the hidden Thumbs.db file in this folder. (The problem filder is a sub-folder in My Documents.) If I find it and remove it, is it recreated when I refresh after removal?

Under your folder options in Explorer, make sure you have selected to show hdden and system files.
Otherwise, if you have selected "Do not cache thumbnails" it won't have been created in the first place.

I have selected "Show hidden and system files". I have not checked "Do not cache thumbnails".

So with those settings, you do not get a thumbs.db file? Very strange...
I just ran a test in ....my documentsmy pictures and as soon as you view the thumnails, the file is created. Deleting it brings up a warning, but it is immediately recreated as soon as you view with the Thumbnail view again.

I did a search of my HD and the only place I find a thumbs.db file is in an image folder for a Web. I did the same search in my Laptop and could only find a db file in Web folders.

    OK, try this:
Create a new folder and copy all the files to it.

    Do the thumbnails work now?
If yes, try deleting the originals and copying them all back.

If not, you may have a corrupt file. Starting with a new fresh folder, copy the files over a few at a time to try and isolate which one may be the offender.

Bingo! Created new folder and copied all files to it. Thumnails now work. I deleted the old folder. Thanks <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23>

I found the db file. I needed to disable this folder-view option lower down the list: "Hide Protected Operating System Files". Then I could see THUMBS.DB. I deleted it (ignore the warning -- trust me!). Close 'My Pictures' or any image folder, then re-open it. Windows will create a new DB file. (You can hear the HD working as it reindexes.) I suggest re-hiding protected OS files again if other people use your PC. It's safer that way.
