'Unable to display the folder' error (Outlook 2002)

Am trying to access subfolders on an Archive Folder file in Outlook, and am getting the "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the specified folder location. Item could not be found." message. Most times when I've seen this before, if you close the Archive Folder and reopen the problem is resolved. That's not the case this time. I have attempted to close and reopen it. I have even removed and readded the folder under Mail Setup | Data Files. I think that it might be a problem with this particular .pst file as, if I open another .pst file, I can access the contents of it with no problem. And suggestions? Please don't tell me it's corrupt since this is the user's primary storage .pst file - 156 Mb worth of info - and I'm pretty sure he won't appreciate me telling him it's gone. Thanks - Sat.

Have you tried the repair application that comes with Outlook 2002? It's called Scanpst.exe and is installed in

    C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMapi1033

where 1033 is the ID of your language - 1033 is US English.

Hey Hans - thanks for pointing this out. Had just found it on the MS Knowledgebase and was about to try it....BUT....figured out that I may have simply jumped the gun on this one. Before I ran the repair tool, I wanted to make a backup copy of the .pst file (you never know what might happen), and when I attempted to Copy/Paste the .pst I kept getting an error that the file was in use (even though I had closed Outlook). So...went into Task Manager and there was still an Outlook.exe process running for some reason. Ended Task, reopened Outlook, and was able to open and see the .pst and it's contents with no problem. So apparently a duplicate Outlook.exe process was the culprit the whole time. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> Phew! Was worried that .pst might have gone bad.

    All's well that ends well...
