Cannot load any new programs (xp/sp2)

I cannot install any new programs. All my existing programs work fine. I tried reloading windows XP. I get a couple of errors that seem to be related. The first error is for Mathcad for window softwear MSX4.0. The second error is for AutoCAD. I have tried to install other programs as weel, with no luck. The exact error is attached on a word document.

    Hi Tim,

Welcome to the Lounge. Let's see if Microsoft can shed some light on this issue for you. Go here to see the MS Support article on this error. Or check out some of the hits on this Google search for more information. I've never seen this error before, and will need to do some reading myself before I comment further. Just wanted to get you started with some background info on your problem first. HTH.

I recommend checking Aaron Stebner's Weblog Aaron Stebner's WebLog. Another links on his blog that may help is Troubleshooting 1935 and 2908 errors during installation

I am not familiar with the errors you got but a google search on the error codes you got seem to indicate a problem with the .NET framework and/or windows installer.

Re: Cannot load any new programs (xp/sp2)

Ok, I figured it out. Thank you for your quick replies, it pointed me in the right direction. For anyone else who has this problem, this is the fix. The problem was a result of my Ad-Ware program. The program was blocking and using certain files. 1). Go to Windows Task Manager (ctrl+Alt+Del). 2). Select the Process tab. 3). select your Ad-ware program and press the 'End Process' button. 4). Install the software. It was a quick fix to 2-3 weeks of stress. Good Luck! Tim

Glad you got that sorted out. And thanks for posting back with your solution. Could I trouble you to post back and identify the specific Ad-ware program that was doing the blocking ?? Not all of them will do that and it would help to know which one in particular causes this type of problem. Thanks !!
