RightClicking the Start Menus

Hello Everybody,
I've got a problem that is not very serious but is annoying me a lot. I hope I can make it clear. Our organization (which runs NT 4.0, SP 6a)recently (!) upgraded our Office 97 suite to Office 2000. I was blase, until someone showed me that now our Start Menus could be right clicked! Wow, that was cool. Easy shortcuts to the desktop! Easy rearrangment of the Start Menu on the fly! I liked it a lot. Recently I have discovered a few machines do not display this rightclick context sensitive menu feature. (Yes, mine is one of them.) Here's my question: Is there a way to fix this, or do I just have to uninstall/reinstall? I'm hoping someone has a settings option or reg edit to tell me about which controls this. Please? Thanks for taking the time to read this not very serious problem!

Re: RightClicking the Start Menus

I'm sure others will have more to say about this.
I believe the Right-Click in the Start menu comes with certain versions of Internet Explorer (versions 4 or higher). It's possible that the machine's in question did not have an updated version of Internet Explorer installed (since Office 2000 has IE 5 with it).

It's just a longshot, but I hope it helps.

Your system administrator may also have policies in place that remove right-click capabilities. . .

Re: RightClicking the Start Menus

Dear Thomas, Mary, and Mark,
Sorry for appearing distant ... I've been away for a couple of days. I found the answer to my question, and thought I'd let you know where: http://www.pcnineoneone.com/tweaks/f...html#desktopup

In a nutshell, as I understand what I read there, what I was missing was the Desktop Update, which isn't installed with IE5 by default. I ran ie5setup.exe from my Office 2000 cd, with the following switch:
pathie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y"

And that did it. Thanks again for your responses. This is a really good board!
