    WiFi

I was "playing" with my Ipaq last night and ventured into the Ipaq Wireless are and clicked on the settings for WiFi. To my amazement I found it had discovered a WiFi connection called WNEW. With eyebrows raised I found that I had connection to the Internet and with much amusement was able to access my HoTMaiL etc.

A number of things come to mind.

I do not have a Wireless network in my house, so therefore I must be connecting via a neighbours network, therefore.

    1) Would they be aware that I am doing this? (obviously they are not security concious)
    2) If I do this again, am I opening up my Ipaq info to the world? ( security?)
    3) Are there any known Windows CE viruses out in the wild and if so are there remedies for hand held devices
    4) This is more of a morality question, could I be breaking any UK laws by doing this, to clarify, I would have no intention of retrieving data from his/her network just piggy-backing of their signal?

    As they say there is no such thing as a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> lunch

    5) <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> and finally, should I tell them (if I could find who they were?) <img src=/S/bubbles.gif border=0 alt=bubbles width=31 height=17>

    Re: WiFi

I am not an expert in this area but as for question 4 I have found a possible offence - Section 125 of the Communications Act 2003 creates an offence in relation to dishonestly obtaining use of an electronic communication service with intent to avoid payment of the charge applicable to that service.

    Hi Tony

Good spot. I suppose I could go home now, get my Ipaq out go onto the internet and read this in the comfort of my armchair <img src=/S/cop.gif border=0 alt=cop width=15 height=24>

    from one .gov.uk lackey to another one <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
