Message Rules Ignored II (OE 6 XP Pro SP2)

I have two rule for my personal email address. The first colours messages to this address blue. The second checks to see if the sender is on my white list. If not the email is deleted. Stop processing any more rules is set.. Just now I had a mail that is obviously spam sent arrive to my personal account . It was not deleted. The given address is not on the white list so how did it get through? Could it be that someone I know has some kind of trojan? Or could I have one and spammed myself? Does anyone have any ideas about this please?

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

Perhaps the answer is "No", but do you have any entries for an entire domain in your AWL? HTH

Thanks, unkamunka, By AWL do you mean address white list? If so then the answer, I think, is no. I believe I only have email addresses. How could I create entries for domains. On reflection perhaps I did it by mistake?

That is what I meant. The usual notation for an entire domain is

    *@domain.com

OE might do something different, but it should be acting somewhere along those lines.

Thanks, I'll check. What about hotmail.com and Yahoo.com? I'm sure there are some of those. Could they be culprits, and how exactly? There's also my own email address. But don't all email addresses tie up to some domain somehow? Still not sure what I'm looking for.

ANY ISP could be the problem including AOL.

Any email address can be spoofed, so all your blocking can be gotten around. If you are using ONLY the addresses in you "Address book" as your safe list, don't expect any mail from any online service that you have place a order from, requested information and etc.

Hi Dave, I have multiple email addresses. The one I have a white list is for my private address which isn't as private as I'd like. I'm thinking of changing it. I use a different account for groups, online ordering etc. Is there any straightforward way of finding out which address was spoofed. I'd be concerned if it were my own domain.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Have you checked the header of the suspect email?
Right click the email, select Properties and then the Details tab.

Yes, I do that with virtually every email that I don't expect and don't recognise. But I'm not really sure what I am looking for. The email address in the from: line is not in my address book so I can't understand how it got past my rules..

Sounds like the rules are not working. Also try making the "Filtering and deleting rule to be run first and then the coloring rule.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave. Can I do that and still have the stop processing rules, rule? Do I move that rule to the changing colour rule? If I simply change the order then the messages won't be coloured? I find message rules a little confusing.

I would think that the "Stop processing rule" must be last or else the following rules would NOT run.
