    Hi Alan,

    Thanks for the link. It somehow reminded me of the Bunch of Old Stuff thread we kept going for more than a year a long while ago.

    Re: The Great Software List

    Just saw your posting and had a look at The Great Software List. I found one program that looked interesting so far in their Internet section ... 1st Page 2000 HTML/CSS Editor.

    My experience here is a good reminder to anyone downloading programs to be sure their antivirus is up-to-date. The download was a zipped file and when I unzipped, my antivirus promptly caught and quarantined a "JS.WindowBomb" virus that was in the program! (Naturally I notified both sites about this.)

    Hi Rod

    I think you're about person 5001 to notice this! It's not a real virus, but an "annoying" piece of javascript, which many AV scanners have decided to add to their lists. It's part of one of the script tutorials, called "6 buttons from hell" or something similar. I think it does things like open an unending stream of popup windows, which can eventually crash your system due to depleted resources.

    You can remove the script if you want just by deleting the offending file. See the thread Virus found in downloadfile for more discussion.

    The Great Software List

    As mentioned in the latest Langa newsletter:

    PLEASE NOTE: It appears that the following site contains some material that may be regarded as unfit for family-friendly viewing!

    The Great Software List is an advocate of great software and ignores mediocre software. The Great Software List is composed of high quality programs that share most or all of the following features:

    (1) Ease of use with a well-designed user interface;
    (2) A generous array of keyboard shortcuts (preferably customizable);
    (3) High degree of customizability where applicable; and
    (4) Affordability.

    An interesting read. ... and for the benefit of John Gray, an example of nounifying a verb.

    Dunno yet, I'm at work and don't have internet access (apart from here of course! Strange, huh?)

    I'll tell you when I've had a good... errr... I mean when I've investigated the suitability of the site.
