    Go Back!!! (97, 2000,xp,2003)

    Hi All,

Being fed up with having to click and scroll up and down all the time when editing a large workbook I thought a little utility that enables you to jump back to where you where before would be nice.

Have a look at this little file:

    Go Back

It has a toolbar that you can use to go to selections you used before and you can use control-alt-p to go back and control-alt-n to go

I have tested it only for a short while, but it works well. A nice utility - it could be very useful!

    Jan Karel,

    Very nice. very useful.

    A few things:
    1. I noticed the a few of my transfers to named ranges didn't get included. Too late to start chasing it down.
    2. Also, if there is a name, the drop down shows the actual cell. Seems like it might be better if it showed the name - I might not even recognize the cell designation (that's one of the reasons I gave it a name).
    3. The drop down list shows "Workbook Unavailable" if I close a workbook. If I reopen it in same excel session, the drop down still shows "Workbook Unavailable". Why not delete the "Workbook Unavailable" when I close the workbook if you can't get the info back when I reopen?
    4. Noticed that if I use tab or arrow keys or other controls (eg, ctrl + Home) that these don't get included. Maybe they weren't supposed to be since you did say click on cells.
    5. When I clicked a few cells of a protected worksheet, nothing was recorded. OK, maybe that's because it was protected. So I unprotected and clicked some more. Still nothing recorded. In fact, now nothing is being recorded (I closed the workbook and loaded another). Maybe I clicked the Disable button accidentally and didn't notice it (certainly didn't click it on purpose).
    6. I just unprotected a sheet and it seems to have affected the list of items in the drop down - many seem gone that were just there a moment ago.
    7. I inserted a row above where I had gone to and the entry in the drop down seemed to changed - good job. Then I inserted 3 rows above where I was; while the drop down reported the incorrect cell, clicking on the entry in the drop down took me to where I had been.
    8. picked up the transfer of an internal hyperlink. good job.
    9. picked up the go to special. good job.

I thought this was an add-in at first. Maybe in the final, you can mention some instructions on how to install.

    Thanks for your comments!

Sounds as if you did somehow disable the utility or it thought it had to reset itself due to some action.

It should record ANY change in the cell selection, whichever way achieved (which includes macro actions I

    Jan Karel,

As far as recording all changes, I should mention that I only looked at the top of the list in the drop down box and maybe 1 or 2 rows below. If the entries appear in some other order, I would have missed it.

The order is chronological, latest at the top.

    Hi everyone,

Just announcing a couple of improvements:

    - when workbook is closed, all it's references are removed from the selection
    history
    - When a range matches a defined name, the name is shown
    - When a cell is edited, no duplicate entry
    - when a range is deleted, references to that range are removed
    - and maybe some more <g>
