Autofill the alphabet

Is there a way (short of creating a custom list) to enter and "a" in one cell, a "b" in an adjacent cell and use autofill to fill the alphabet?

Umm, autofill numbers from 65 to 122, then set a formula =char() addressing each number? This gives you both cases and some punctuation symbols.

You can set all manner of custom list if you go to Tools, Options and select Custom Lists tabs. You just type in the series of data you want for the list seperated by commas. These customs lists can then take advantge of autofill.

It works in Excel 2000, but am sure it is also available in XL97

Not exactly what you're looking for, but this only works if you want to copy down (won't work across)

    =LEFT(ADDRESS(1,ROW(D1),4))

Put A in cell A1, then the forumla below in A2:

=CHAR(CODE(A1)+1)

    Now copy that formula down.
