    Word's suggested doc title (2002 SP-2)

Whenever I want to save a new document, Word always assumes the name of the document will be "May 17.doc"? Is that something that got stuck into the normal.dot template?

That is the "First line " of text in you document. Word will ALWAY suggest the first line.

Word appears to guess a document title based on the following order:
    1. If the document has already been saved - the current name is suggested
    2. If there is a Title typed in the File > Properties dialog it suggests the Title
    3. If there is no Title then it suggests the first line of the document.
    4. If neither 2 nor 3 then it suggests Doc#.doc

Based on this, if your docs are all coming up with May 17 then I would assume that the template you are using has this typed into the Title field in the File Properties.

You're right. "May 17, 2004" was in Document properties of normal.dot as the title. I got rid of it. Thanks.
