    Automatic E-Mail Check (Outlook 2003)

For some reason, my Outlook has stopped checking email at set (I had 10 minutes) intervals. Also, I've lost the display of the message receive progress in the status bar. I've searched high and low in E-mail Account settings and in Customize and Options and I can't find anything that leads me to re-setting those options.

Tools>Options>Mail Setup tab>Send/Receive button. The next screen should give you all the options.

That's what I thought, too. I have the "Send Immediately when connected" box checked but when I click on the "Send/Receive" button, nothing happens. I even used the detect and repair option in the Help area but nothing has changed. I started suspecting something when I didn't see the "Send/Receive Complete" words down in the status bar. Oddly, I'm receiving messages but at some mysterious interval that I can't see or change.
