Word not going to the bottom of the page (Word 2k)

This is quite an annoying problem.
I can't really attach it because its a sensitive document.
On each page the words only go down 3/4 of the way before an automatic page break is put in.
I have checked the paper size and margin settings etc.
Does anyone have any idea of what else I can check.
    Thanks again in advance

Maybe your paragraphs are broken to the next page because they are set to "keep with next" or "keep lines together"?
If there's a small black square to the left of a paragraph, you can double-click on it to see and change those settings (if you don't prefer to change the style, that is).

As well as Klaus's suggestions, have you checked that the footer area isn't set to some very large value?

    Something else to check:

In my department, we used to see something similar. After MUCH testing (and intuitive guessing), I found that when the header or footer is too big to be contained between the Header or Footer distance and the Top or Bottom margin (e.g. the Header Distance was .5", the top margin was set to 1" and the header text consisted of 5 or more lines of text) AND there was a footnote on that page, Word would insert a soft page break well before it was necessary, sometimes halfway down the page. I don't know if this bug still exists, but it's something to check.

And yet a couple more possibilities:
    1.
Vertical Alignment may not be set to "Top" -- File / Page Setup / Layout tab

Is there a textbox or frame in the footer that you can't see? View / Headers and Footers - Switch to footers and slowly mouse-over the blank area

Do you have a Gutter set? File / Page Setup (can't remember which tab in 2K, believe it's Source???)

Is there formatting in the footer indicating Space Before? View / Headers and Footers - Switch to Footer, right click on first paragraph marker then go to format / paragraph and check settings

Is the Printer Driver messed up? Switch to a different printer and see if behavior continues -- if so reinstall printer driver for default printer.

One other thought: sometimes problems with the printer driver will cause Word to ignore the bottom part of a page.
