New and Dangerous (XP Pro SP-2)

I have software (SurfSaver) that requires Administrator rights to unlock...

My user name has this, but evidently they want the "ADMINISTRATOR"... so I logged off, and...

The Administrator account doesn't show, but when I went to create it, XP said I alrady have it... so

What the heck have I done wrong here, and how do I fix it?

Almost all NT-based software requires you to have administrator rights to install it. But I have never heard of a requirement for a username of Administrator!

What does it say when you try to install it under your own administrator-level account?

It just won't accept the reg info... keeps saying I need to be logged in as... and, funny thing, I have installed this before... although NOT registered (entered info) on XP...

I emailed them too... I just don't know whose area of problem I've got -- typical with pc's, the he did it, no, they did it syndrome...

I don't know why any program installer would require "the" Administrator account, but you ALWAYS have one, regardless of what it may be called. If you're using the Welcome Screen and the installed Administrator account isn't showing, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice to get to a standard logon screen. There you can enter the Administrator and password. I don't have mine showing on the Welcome Screen and that's how I get to it when I (seldom) need it.

    Al:

Ctl-Alt-Del, when I press (them) form the User screen (listed all Users (except Admin), nada happens...

When I (per Help) ran a secondary process, and tried to add the Admin, it said it was already there -- not surprising... that's me... that's why I don't understand the error...

    Sigh...

Press them TWICE Chuck. You should NOT see a list of all users! You should see a small, rectangular box with only TWO entry areas: one for the user name and one for the password. If you don't see that box, either you're not doing something correctly or your system is malfunctioning.

    Al:

Hit them twice from where? If I do it *right now*, I get the task manager, no little box. If I log out, then I'm out and it don't do nuttin either...

Re: New and Dangerous (XP Pro SP-2)

    Al:

I found it. If you have the "fast user switching" turned on, the Admin isn't accessible, because the box to type it in isn't there. Once you turn off the fast switching, and the box is then there when you log on/off, you can type in "Administrator", and all is hunky dorey...

Thanks for your help. Eventually the solution surfaces, ...

    Regards,
    Chuck
