Installing new files before shutdown (Windows XP v5.1 service pack 2)

I just shutdown my computer but before the last screen went off, windows starting installing some updates or something. There were eight of them and it kept saying don't turn off computer until they are finished (about 3 mins).

My automatic update is set to download but I choose when to install, so how could Windows do that without asking me?

    Thanks, Mike.

Is this a home or work PC? That sounds like settings from using SUS in a work environment.

Double check your WU settings? Can you post a picture?

Windows is NOT the only program that may be set for Auto updates. Remember that most firewalls, AV and other security programs like to have them.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
