IE wont open sites with www.

Good day all, In the last couple of days I have been unable to open a couple of sites in IE6 (latest updates win xp sp2) when they have the www. prefix. If I remove the www all is well, the same sites open OK in Firefox, Mozilla and Konqueror. Can anyone throw any light on this behaviour. Thanks Graham.

Are you also typing in the "http://" ?
If NOT give that a try.

Hi Dave, Yes it is always http:// with http://abcd.com it works with http://www.abcd.com it doesn't ! I have a sneaking suspicion this has something to do with the MS safe computing update, my computer downloaded this a couple of days ago with the auto update feature from Ms. Cheers Graham.

I have found the culprit, it is an add on from safer networking ltd . I have disabled it in IE and all is well again. As I have never downloaded anything from safer networking ltd I guess Ms gave me this in their security updates. Thanks Graham

I have my updates from MS upto date, and there is no entry like that on any of my machines.
I do NOT think it came from MS, but some third party protection. What other securitry programs are you running?

Note, I do not use MSN and have not in installed the beta anti-spyware software.

    Graham,
This add on is a part of Spybot Search and Destroy. It is important, and I would suggest that if this is what's giving you the problem, you uninstall and reinstall SSD rather than disabling the add on. I have this in my list of add ons and I have no trouble with the www prefix.

I know that MS has issues, but they do get blamed for far to much stuff.
