    Trouble finalising database (2000)

    Hi,
Attached is a stripped down database that I appear to be having trouble finalising.
The problems I'm having is that I have tried to customise the standard error messages that Access display. I think that I may have messed something up in the meantime as the user now cannot add a record, either to the main form, or the sub-form.......but I can't work out why.....
I'm also having a problem with the pop-up calendar, de-popping once the user has selected a date from it.
If anybody could have a quick perusal it would be vastly appreciated

About adding new records etc.: you have put code in the After Update event of frmMain that modifies the record. This causes an endless loop. You should put the code in the Before Update event:

    Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
    Me.User = NetUser
    End Sub

and delete the After Update event procedure.

About the calendar: the On Mouse Down event for btnDateChosen on the sfrmCalendar subform contains the line

    DoCmd.Close A_FORM, "frmCalendar"

This attempts to close frmCalendar, but the calendar form in your database is named frmPopCalendar, so you should use

    DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmPopCalendar"

(I replaced A_FORM, a remnant from Access 95 or before, with acForm)

BTW, please forgive me for mentioning this, but I hate the shadows behind the labels on frmMain and frmMainSub. They make the labels hard to read. I also find it very annoying that the form takes up my entire screen, even covering the Windows task bar.

    Re: Trouble finalising database (2000)

Thanks for solving the problems that I was having.
I always appreciate constructive criticism with regards to the designing of databases, so no offence taken. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
With regards to the shadowing, this was simply me trying to design something that was a bit more interesting that standardised text. I sometimes find that the Access databases that I am requested to do can look a bit dull and grey after they've been completed. Hence the icons as well, instead of normal text or Access images. Whether this is down to inexperience or plain lack of imagination, I'm not too sure!
I must confess that after several redesigns, I am also finding the intrusiveness of the forms taking up the entire screen somewhat annoying..this I'm intending to change so that the user can at least view the task bar.
