    'Eclipse'

I have acquired an application in my win xp program files that pops up an ad every few seconds. I have been unable to find how to erase this file. The error message claims that it is in use by another program. It is labelled read only and can be changed but it then changes back to read only. I tried to turning off system recovery but I still was unable to erase this time. I tried the dos-like mode under the command prompt but got the same error message. Does anyone have an idea re how to erase this tile?

    Phil,
Have you tried the usual lot of Ad removers and Spy removers? ( AdAware & Spybot S&D )

Check out this post at <post#=296439>post 296439</post#> for a list of removers and links on how to download them.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Most such programs keep a process running to protect themselves from being removed the Processes tab of Task Manager can be a mysterious alphabet soup, but if nothing else works, you might be able to kill off this thing there and then delete its files.

    Phil,
You could try using EndItAll 2 from PC Magazine. This "bigger hammer" will politely exit, or just plain <img src=/S/smash.gif border=0 alt=smash width=30 height=26> kill any running windows application or process (Actual Windows processes excepted). Then you can work on your offending files.

I use it when I want a really "quiet" machine for video processing.
