    Active templates (Word 2003)

We have a situation whereby we wish to have 2 templates (normal.dot) run on the user machines. The reason for this is that we wish to make available to all users certain information but also allow each user to have their own specific information available via autotext.

Can anyone help? We have tried all manner of different file combinations to try to achieve this.

    cheers

There can be only one Normal.dot, but you can use global templates/add-ins beside that. Word has a Startup folder; any template in that folder will be loaded when Word starts; the code, toolbars etc. in the template will be available just like the code and toolbars in Normal.dot. The default startup folder for recent versions of Word/Windows is

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftWordStartup

but it can be changed in the File Locations tab of Tools | Options... in Word. It can be set to a network folder, for instance, so that all users share the same global templates.
