Upgrade Problems (XP sr2)
This past Sunday I finally gave up on WindowsME and 'upgraded' to XP-SP2.
1...Modem wouldn't work. Bought new modem. Hey, I'm here!
2...Nothing in Start Menu.
3...Nothing in Startup
4...All registered/licensed programs I've tried to run have required the 'keys' to be re-entered.
5...No CD's will autostart.
6...This one really bugs me...Firefox 1.0 and Thunderbird 1.0 simply do not work.
I've tried re-installing both and the installs seem to go OK but neither will load completely.
Does anyone know what might have gone wrong? Is there a 'Repair' that can be done?
My system exceeds all the criteria for the upgrade.
Thanks for any help.
Have a Great day!!!

Re: Upgrade Problems (XP sr2)
IMO, you'd be better off backing up your data, making sure you've got XP drivers, then install from scratch. Clean installs are almost always a better option. All you need to do is supply the ME cd if the XP install asks for proof of upgradability. Yeah, you'll have to re-install all your other software but it should all work. Biggest plus is you'll get rid of however much junk has built up since you installed ME.
