Creating a PDF hangs Word (2000)

I have this large complicated (by Word standards) document. It has 245 pages, three sections and lots of graphics.

When I try to create a PDF using the Acrobat (5) macros, Word hangs during the "printing" stage. There are no error messages.

I have managed to create a PDF of this document before but now there are a lot more pages and graphics.

    Any Ideas?

    thanks

I don't use Acrobat, but... have you tried the PDFWriter and Distiller "printers"? I vaguely recall that printing to these drivers might not handle bookmarks very well, but I think they are worth a try if you can't convert any other way.

If I create the PDF from within Acrobat, I loose the Table of Contents hyperlinks.

    The Acrobat macro preserves these.

Interesting problem. I used to (note the past tense <img src=/S/angel.gif border=0 alt=angel width=15 height=21> ) use AA5 with Office 97, for years this worked well, but I made the leap to Office XP. and then reinstalled AA5. After that Word kept hanging and I would get an irritating message after I closed down. I found it was all down to AA5 and the Macro it installed in Word.

It would be interesting to know what version of Adobe you are using and also what office version you are using as I had similar problems in the past. Just as an aside have you changed the default Distiller settings by accident and have you tried printing the document via the File--> Print menus as this tends to bypass the macros.

Re: Creating a PDF hangs Word (2000)

I found out what was causing the problem but I am not sure as to why.

I discovered a few hyperlinks in the document. These were not readily visible as they appeared as normal text - black with no underline. These links were to web sites. They were not malacious.

After I removed the hyperlinks, I was able to create the PDF.

Could it be that the problem is due to the links referencing web sites or that I was not on line while trying to create the PDF?

Anyway, I do not want the links and had they been visible, I would have deleted them.

Interesting point about the hyperlinks. As I don't use it now to its full extent were the hyperlinks prefixed with HTTP:// ? that may help Distiller to identify them. How trying this with a test document as memory serves me I lost this option when I printed directly to the Distiller through the Printer menu, are you using the printer menu or the Adobe Distiller Icon on the Adobe toolbar. I hope these give you some more ideas

You know, I never looked close enough to see if the links had HTTP://

I know the web page I was converting has both internal and external links. I thought I had converted all of them to plain text. When I did a search for Hyperlinks, they showed up.

I used the Adobe ikon on the Adobe tool bar to create the PDF.
