    Arranging Controls on UserForm

Does anyone know of rules-of-thumb, guidelines or recommendations about the layout of UserForms that you can use in the VBE? Size of controls, spacing between controls ...
Microsoft has some guidelines based on dialog units and pixels, but I do not know how to translate that to UserForms that seem to stick to points.

    Ingrid,

One way to get this knowhow is to do a few exercises of back-engineering the design of bult-in dialogs that come with Office apps.

Not sure about the other apps, but with Word 2000 you can create non-modal userforms, thus permitting you to play with displaying your userform side by side with a built-in dialog. This makes it easy to go back and forth and tweak your userform to get it to reproduce the design of the built-in dialog.

You can then use the results as design templates, from which you can obtain point sizes of controls, spacing etc.

Would you please post a reference to the MSoft article? I'm currently working on a device that automates the processof creation of GUI forms, creating as many forms as necessary and as many controls with defaults as necessary from a parameter file. I'd like to stick with whatever standard exists.

    Thanks!

I would not have discovered that myself in a million years.

It's at the MSDN Library, Books section. Under "The Windows User Experience" you'll find the "Design Specifications and Guidelines".
The section on layout is at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/books/winguide/ch14e.htm>http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/bo...uide/ch14e.htm</A>.

Mmm, had me vaguely wondering whether Redmond has a partnership with Brussels.
