    Protect specific Cell (Word 2K)

I need to protect specific cells within a table but not the whole table itself. Can this be done? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks!

You can protect one or more rows for forms:
    - Insert a continuous section break before and after the rows.
    - Select Tools | Protect document...
    - Click Forms, then Sections...
    - Specify which sections should be protected, then click OK.
Note: inserting a continuous section break inside a table will effectively split it into two tables.
I don't know of a way to protect a single cell, or a column.

Alternatively, you can embed an Excel table in the document. In Excel, you can lock/unlock individual cells.

Word 2003 breaks with tradition and allows protection to be applied regardless of sections. But it's not backwards compatible, so unless your users are switching, it probably doesn't help.
